Anna Baxter

A native of Oklahoma, USA, soprano Anna Baxter began her music education as a child studying piano, clarinet and oboe as well as 10 years of ballet, tap and jazz dance instruction. Throughout her childhood she was frequently on stage, either as actress, piano soloist, dancer or vocal soloist in musical theater and sacred music.

She completed her Master of Music Degree in Texas
. Further studies continued in Vienna with internationally acclaimed artists KS Olivera Miljakovic and KS Wicus Slabbert in Vienna, where she has found her new home.

Baxter was a prize winner at the International Singing Competition of Passau, as well as winning numerous other competitions during her studies in America.

Her European debut as Violetta in La Traviata
was highly acclaimed by both audience and critics alike. She has also given concerts and recitals in the USA, Europe, and Asia.

She has sung with orchestras such as the Zagreb Philharmonic, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hansestadt Lübeck, the Sherman Symphony, and the Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra. Great musicians with whom she has shared the stage include Claudio Abbado, Rudolf Buchbinder, and Peter Schmidl.

Baxter has appeared regularly as a guest soloist at Theater Lübeck and Theater Freiburg in Germany as well as Oper Halle and Stadttheater Bern in Switzerland.

Her repertoire includes such roles as Arabella, Rosalinde, The Gypsy Princess, The Merry Widow, Freia, Liu, Marie in The Bartered Bride and the Countess in Marriage of Figaro. She has collaborated with musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic and has performed in the renowned Brahmssaal, Vienna numerous times.

Since 2017 she has regularly been a soloist with the Johann Strauß Operette Vienna touring ensemble. Her latest concert tour in January 2025 with the Varna Opera Orchestra took her to 8 different megacities in China. The last five summers she sang in the legendary Salzburg Music Festival with the Konzertvereinigung Vienna State Opera.

After earning her Master of Music degree in the USA, Anna moved to Austria in 2001 and has been there ever since.

She made her European debut as Violetta in La Traviata in 2006 and has been active in the Austrian, German and Swiss music scene as soloist in theaters such as Theater Lübeck, Stadttheater Bern, Oper Halle and has spent the last 5 summers singing at the Salzburger Summer Music Festival. 

She has also appeared in numerous recitals and concerts with orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lübeck, the Zagreb Philharmonic and recently the Varna State Opera Orchestra as soloist in a New Year’s concert tour in 8 cities in China. 

In Vienna she has collaborated with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and has often performed in the renowned Brahmssaal of the Vienna Musikverein. 

Since 2017 she has regularly been a soloist with the Johann Strauß Operette Vienna touring ensemble.   Her latest concert tour with the Varna Opera Orchestra saw her singing in 8 different megacities in China.

Parallel to her singing activities, Anna is passionate about imparting her musical, vocal and artistic knowledge on to the next generation and has been teaching the art of singing for 20 years, privately and in music schools such as the Amadeus Academy of Vienna.
